Privacy Notice

What we collect when you list a gown or enquire about one, what other users can see, and how to have it all deleted.

Who is responsible for your data

Second Vow is operated by The Wedding Aliens LTD (“Wedding Aliens”), the controller of the personal data described here. For anything privacy-related, write to secondvow@weddingaliens.com.

This notice covers Second Vow, the pre-loved bridal listings board. Our general site notice is the Wedding Aliens Privacy Policy; where the two overlap, this notice is the more specific one for gown listings and gown enquiries.

What we collect

Account data: your email address, your name, and a password held in hashed form by our authentication provider. We do not collect your address or date of birth.

Listing data (sellers): designer, size, colour, condition, alterations, asking price, your photographs of the gown, and the country or area where the gown can be viewed.

Enquiry data (buyers): the gown you are interested in, your name, your email address, optional WhatsApp number, preferred reply method and your message.

Payment data (paid listings only): handled entirely by Stripe. We receive a confirmation that a listing was paid for; we never see or store your card number.

Technical data: standard server logs and privacy-respecting usage statistics, used to keep the service working and to spot abuse.

What other users can see

A public listing shows the gown, its details, the seller's first name and the country or area — never a full name, email address, phone number or street address.

Buyer and seller contact details are exchanged only through our relay, and only once both sides agree to be introduced. Until then, neither party has the other's email address.

Once you are introduced, you communicate directly and privately with the other person. Anything you then choose to share with them — phone number, meeting place, social profiles — is outside our control, so share only what the sale requires.

Why we use it

To publish your listing, to pass on enquiries, to send the transactional emails a sale requires, to take payment for paid listings, to prevent fraud and abuse, and to comply with law. The legal bases are performance of a contract with you, our legitimate interest in a safe marketplace, and your consent for optional marketing emails.

Marketing emails are optional and separate. You can turn them off in your account or from any email we send.

Who we share it with

Our hosting and database provider, our email delivery provider, and Stripe for payments — each acting on our instructions under a data processing agreement. We do not sell your data, and we do not share it with venues, suppliers or advertisers.

Where a suspected fraud or crime is reported, we may share relevant listing and account records with the police or another competent authority.

How long we keep it

Live listings are kept while they are live. Sold or withdrawn listings are kept for up to 12 months so we can resolve disputes, then deleted. Enquiry messages are kept for up to 24 months. Payment records are kept for as long as tax law requires.

Delete your account from your account page at any time. Deletion removes your profile, your saved items, your listings and your enquiry history. We keep only what law obliges us to keep, such as invoice records.

Your rights

Under the GDPR you may request access to your data, correction, deletion, restriction or portability, and you may object to processing based on legitimate interest or withdraw consent for marketing at any time. Email secondvow@weddingaliens.com and we will respond within one month.

You may also complain to the Office of the Commissioner for Personal Data Protection in Cyprus, or to your local supervisory authority.

Safety reminder

Protecting your data is not the same as protecting your money. We recommend buying within your own country, seeing the gown in person and paying on handover. Wedding Aliens is not a party to any sale and accepts no responsibility for a fraudulent seller or buyer — the Second Vow Terms explain this in full.
